Here are a few of the more common questions we receive from our customers.

How many people can I bring?

When you book your brewing appointment, you are booking one of our kettles that will produce either 2 cases or 4 cases from one of our 100 recipes.  You can have up to 4 people on that kettle but it's definitely possible to do this alone! Have more than 4 people who want to brew? No problem! Design2Brew charges a small additional person fee.  Wine kit makers may also have up to 4 people in their group.

Can I bring someone under 21?

Missouri state law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 to brew in our store.

How long does this take?

Brewing takes about four hours for 5 gallon recipes five hours for 10 gallon or imperial brews.  Fermentation time is 3 weeks.

Bottling a 5 gallon beer batch takes about a half hour and bottling a large batch take about an hour.

Making wine from a kit takes less than an hour.  Our staff will help you select your kit and explain why wine kits truly are the best way to get started on your winemaking journey.   All of the kit ingredients are pre-measured so it is as simple as pouring in the juice and adding the packets.  Bottling your wine (30 bottles) takes between 1 - 1/2 hours depending on the number of helpers.  There is no rush for either visit.  Feel free to bring in a snack and enjoy the session.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you are comfortable in.  We wont be running around and doing cartwheels or anything but please keep in mind that there is the potential for spills. Do not wear anything that cannot easily be washed, and open toed shoes or heels are not allowed. Please understand that Design2Brew is not responsible for any damage to clothing sustained during the brewing or wine making process.

What if I'm running late?

If you are running late for your appointment (brewing, winemaking or bottling), please call the store to inform the staff. In the event that you are late for your appointment, we will do our best to accommodate you, but please understand that the store is on a very tight schedule and usually cannot adapt to changing appointments. Appointments more than 15 minutes late will be rescheduled.

Do I have to have decided on my recipe before my appointment?

Choosing you recipe is by far the hardest part of the entire process. We have over 100 constantly changing recipes and there are bound to be a few that you'll wind up stuck between! Please take time to chose a recipe before your brewing session. Still can't decide? We're more than happy to talk to you about all of our recipes before your brewing session starts! We ask all parties to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of their appointment.

Can I brew my own recipe?

Unfortunately no. All recipes offered by Design2Brew must be put through tests to ensure its quality. Any changes to a Design2Brew recipe absolves Design2Brew of any responsibility for that final product.

When do I need to bottle my beer or wine?

Beers will be available to bottle 3 weeks from your brewing date. From this date, you have 4 weeks to bottle your beer. To ensure you bottle in time, we ask that you book your bottling date before leaving the brewery. We understand that schedules can be hard to coordinate and ask that, if you cannot book your bottling at that time that you book within a week.  Wines will be ready to bottle based on the manufacturer instructions.

Will you call me when my beer is ready?

No. Bottling your beer is your responsibility. The beer must be bottled within 4 weeks of the end of fermentation.

Is it better to wait longer before bottling my beer?

No. All the beers come off the yeast at the same time. Your beer will not become more alcoholic if you leave it with us longer. In fact, waiting longer to bottle your beer can have adverse effects on the product and shorten its shelf life. No matter when the beer is bottled, we do also recommend allowing 2 weeks for the beer to mature in the bottles.

Will you bottle it for me?

At this time Design2Brew does not offer a bottling service.

Can I sell my beer?

No. Selling the beer you brew at Design2Brew is illegal.

How long is my beer good for?

Your beer's best by date is 3 months from bottling date.  Some beers (like stouts) will last longer, but Design2Brew considers this 3 month to be the beer's expiration date.  After you beer's best by date at 3 months Design2Brew is no longer responsible for the quality of the beer.
